(AP) - A bomb squad blew up a metal pipe that had a battery, wires, rope and an electrical switch, only to realize it was an eighth-grade science project. "An electromagnetic fishing pole," Allegheny County Bomb Squad Sgt. Robert Clark said, holding the contraption with the battery blown off. A clerk found the device, made from three feet of half-inch metal pipe, near the greeting cards display at a drugstore Thursday. Police Chief Roger Beadling said he got within two metres and decided not to take any chances. "It definitely appeared to be some kind of explosive device," he said. The bomb squad used a robot to examine the device, then destroyed it.

A 10th-grader at Frazier High School said the science project is something eighth-graders do every year. "You have to make it so it can pick up metal paper clips, but you can't use magnets," Tiffany Burton said. "I hated that project." Jim Shahan, owner of a pizza shop a few doors away, said had he seen the device, he might have saved everyone a few anxious hours. "I just helped make one for my daughter," he said.

Unite !!!

This shocking news story of poultry eradication.

BEIJING, China — China and Vietnam on Friday each confirmed new bird flu (search) outbreaks, while Japanese authorities said 180,000 chickens would be killed after signs of the virus were found at a farm.

Adding to global jitters about bird flu, the Asian Development Bank warned in a report that a flu pandemic could kill up to 3 million people in Asia, cost the region billions and plunge the world into recession.

North American H5N1

It was reported today that birds in Quebec and Ontario have been found with the avian flu.

Dr. Isaac Strong founder of The Center For Avian Flu Detection has issued a statement calling for the creation of Avian Detention Camps for all North American birds. type='text'>Ghost Ship

This ship sunk without a trace in the 20th century (and to this day not a trace of it has been found). Somewhat unique to the voyage was: there was an execution on board, the captain was a raging drunk (apparently), the ship 'overshot' the harbor destination in South America by a few dozen miles going down from the States and had to enter the harbor from the south, there was an unscheduled stop in Barbados and oh, 309 men lost their lives. The captain and the diplomatic consul were avid German sympathizers (born there). Funny thing? It was a US Navy ship in WW1. Go figure huh?

False Messiah - Original Lineup Picture

Came across this old newspaper picture of False Messiah in the original lineup.

From left to right they are: Bill (bass), George(drums and backup vocals), Gramps (lead guitar and vocals), Nathan (keyboards and backup vocals) and James (rhythm guitar).

Gouge

An old oil company saying "When in doubt, gouge your fellow man. We have to wait until early April again for another baseball season to start. Ziggy would like to congratulate the Chicago White Sox on getting their first pennant in 88 years and also erasing the stigma of the 1919 Black Sox scandal.

In a related, Ziggy has heard there was test marketing conducted for a new brand of hot dog during the Series. They could not be sold with the popcorn and stuff but I understand they were available at the beer concession stands. This is baseball in the 21st century. "I never saw anything like that before in my life."

It is against state policy to pave over a deer, said Walter Bortree, a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation engineer.

"We do not routinely oil and chip over deer kill," Bortree said. "If in fact the deer was in the work area, it should have been removed before the work was done."

Bortree said the private contractor that did the work for the state probably missed seeing the deer because it was on the edge of the road.

But Billig said the animal is in plain view.

"You can't miss it," he said. He gigged with bands and learned expressions such as "far out", "groovy" and "Climb it Tarzan". Free love was in the air and free music festivals were played in parks. One Sunday, he got a frantic call from a friend, who was a friend of Ed Sullivan's. Seems like the lead guitar player of this band from England had gotten sick with a case of the mumps. The friend asked if Ed and the band could talk to Gramps about sitting in for the sick guitar player and he said sure (of course).

So Gramps did and they did two songs. "She Loves You" and "I Want To Hold Your Hand". This was in February 1964 I think. Ed Sullivan was really happy that his bacon was saved. He got Marc Chagall to recreate the famous gig on canvas. The below now hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of New York.

When asked about Gramps sitting in, John Lennon only said: "Genius is a promontory jutting out of the infinite".

Famous People

I've been fortunate to meet a lot of famous people. He explained quickly that it was medical terminology and meant "Bend Over, Here It Comes Again". He explained to me that Doctor's had their own slang and could talk in front of a patient and the patient would not understand the conversation. For example, he mentioned a heart attack patient he had been treating. He had chest XRays taken. When another doctor walked in and saw the XRays - he said to his colleague "Ah, Icing on the cake". Now that means, a lethal tumor was discovered in the X-rays. See? Or he could also say - "Ah, LRO I see". That means "Luck Ran Out".

Doctors don't like lawyers apparently. See, every once in awhile they will "Bury the Hatchet" which means a surgical instrument was accidentally left inside a patient. That's kind of a no-no where Ziggy lives.

Lab techs (like those who take blood) are called "leeches". If you have "poured a Bordeaux" then your urine has blood in it. See?

There is lots more - you might find it interesting and I will pass it along from time to time. But if you ever hear you are to get a 3H enema - you obviously are not a nice person. Cause that means - "high, hot, and a hell of a lot." These are given to patients who give staff a hard time.

Dead Swans Found in Croatia with H5N1

With the dead swans found recently in Croatia, our local authorities have started with innoculations of the H5N1 vaccine.

Here is the first innoculation in the state.
(One minor detail, in the haste to get this vaccine out, the drug manufacturer has been issued immunity in any side effects or subsequent litigation.)

False Messiah Tee Shirts II

This tee shirt is also available now in the online store for $129.99 (taxes not included).

If you are truly hip, or remotely hip, this is the new "Air Jordan". We haven't read about crows with problems in the Golden State.

Bagpipe Festival Pt 2

Since winter is coming, part of the Bagpipe Festival is the quilt contest (along with the selling of quilts).

Here are this years winners in the 84th Annual Edna Thompson Quilt Making Contest.

Bagpipe Festival

This weekend in our local park we had our annual Bagpipe Festival.

This guy is jamming out and the kids seem to be catching the groove.

Southern Tips #1

When you visit Florida, the state runs daily little bits of advice in each and every newspaper for their tourists. My parents were injured severely injured in an automobile accident and I was sent to live with Gramps. False Messiah was recording, but not touring. I met Breezy that summer when I was 14. He used to crash at Gramps a lot.

Breezy was the fiddle player for False Messiah and also filled in on a B3 from time to time. He and gramps met in the hospital in New York when they were both quarantined with the influenza.

This is Breezy playing with False Messiah at Cachanchafest 2004. A single mother of two has a love affair (alleged) with a janitor. The girlfriend of the janitor allegedly drives into the aforementioned woman's car in a fit of jealous, sexual rage.

When the police come to investigate, meth is allegedly found in the woman's car. She is then charged with felony meth possession.

The patchouli thing?

An elected state representative.
